Design of the Training Space at L’Atelier Normand in Carpiquet
L’Atelier Normand is a third-place facility designed for carpenters, metalworkers, and artisans in general. It is a shared workshop where machines are pooled. The Atelier also offers training and thematic workshops for the general public. We worked on the design of this training space with the goal of creating an environment that is both raw, reflecting the essence of the place, and highly welcoming.
To the left, the space features an exhibition wall to showcase various products created during training sessions. This wall is designed to entice occasional visitors to return and create more woodworking or metalworking pieces. It is a focal point, being the first wall visible upon arrival, positioned beneath the containers.
At the back, we highlight the name of the facility, ensuring it stands out in photos taken during institutional visits or events. This area also includes storage spaces. Inside the container, we have the trainer’s office, which also serves as a space for recording YouTube videos. The name is prominently displayed here as well.
The space is delineated on the floor with markings to ensure the safety of students, keeping them clear of resident traffic.
We opted for a raw metal perforated finish to reflect the facility’s core identity, accentuated with yellow to add warmth and freshness. The yellow evokes joy and optimism, mirroring the spirit of Jérôme, the founder of L’Atelier Normand.
