Conversion of a Basement into a Student Studio in Hérouville Saint Clair

This basement, which opens to the outside and includes a private courtyard, was transformed into a highly appealing studio for a student. Originally used for storage, the owners decided to capitalize on this underutilized space by fully renovating it.

The elongated studio features a custom linear unit that serves as a kitchen, TV stand, and dresser for the bedroom. A wardrobe was also created under a staircase, near the bed, concealed by large closet doors. The studio functions similarly to a one-bedroom apartment, with a bedroom area separated from the rest of the space by a glass partition. The large bathroom is located in a separate room and includes a walk-in shower, storage, a washing machine, a suspended toilet, and technical space.

Two main challenges were faced: the low ceiling height of barely two meters and the long, narrow shape of the room. The custom linear design provided ample storage, making the space functional. This design also accentuates the length of the room, making it appear larger while mitigating the impact of the low ceiling.
